South Australian Car Manufacturing History

Held in May each year, About Time is the annual History Festival of South Australia. Since 2012 the National Motor Museum has been conducting heritage bus tours visiting the historic sites of specific local car manufacturers such as Holden and Chrysler.

We are always keen to build on our knowledge of Australian car manufacturing history to add to these tours and Museum displays. Ongoing research is being undertaken for the following sites and companies:

  • Ford Birkenhead Assembly Plant at Birkenhead, Port Adelaide
  • T.J. Richards Body Builders
  • Chrysler (Australia)
  • Holden
  • Lightburn & Co (manufacturer of the Zeta)

More information for each can be found on our research callouts pageKeep your eyes peeled on our website and facebook account for future heritage bus tours.
