Australia had its own experience of the 1950s characterised by a strong economy, high employment rates, increased standards of living, and the dream of owning a home in suburbia with the latest labour-saving appliances. 'Pop' music and television were also introduced to Australia in this decade. Australia's own car manufacturer, Holden, released their first car in November 1948, and the make was popular throughout the decade as car ownership continued to increase.
